ABC AS GOVERNING BODY
Date: 1946
The American Bowling Congress was the sport’s primary governing body in the United States. The executive committee created and maintained a well-oiled machine that staged world championships, made rule changes and promoted the sport generally. During the 1946 ABC tournament in Buffalo, New York, ABC secretary Elmer H. Baumgarten oversaw the distribution of more than $200,000 in prize money to the tournament’s champions.
