DUVAL THE VET SUPPORTING OTHER VETS
Date: 1970
At the 1970 BPAA All-Star Tournament, bowling pioneer Helen Duval was honored with the BPAA Veterans Award for completing her 500th game. In addition to being known for her prowess on the lanes, Duval was also renowned for her support of U.S. military veterans. She worked extensively with the non-profit Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL), visiting veteran hospitals nationwide to teach bowling for 20 years. Additionally, Duval was a passionate advocate for physical fitness, becoming one of the first women to join the President’s Council on Physical Fitness during the John F. Kennedy administration, where she served for five years.
