GATEWAY STRIKES
Date: 1944
The Hyde Park Beer bowling team from St. Louis wore special patches commemorating their victory as the Greater St. Louis All-Star Champions in 1944. Standing at the top right is Nelson Burton Sr., a towering figure in the sport who would later be enshrined in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Hall of Fame. This team’s achievement highlighted the Gateway City’s rich history as a bowling powerhouse, where competitive leagues thrived, and the city fostered some of the nation’s top talent.
