JACK SPRATT’S REVENGE
Date: 1843
The popularity of bowling reaches far back in history, as depicted in this 1843 print of “Jack Spratt’s Revenge,” drawn by W. Croome and edited by J. Yeager. The figure at the center grabs the attention of his fellow patrons by standing and gesturing on top of a bowling lane, much to the dismay of the people trying to enjoy themselves with nine-pin and spirits.
