POPULARIZING BOWLING IN JAPAN
Date: 1970
A bowling sensation from Yokohama, Japan, Kayoko Suda captivated audiences at the Hialeah Lanes in Florida during the 1969 BPAA All-Star Tournament. Renowned as one of Japan’s bowling luminaries, Suda secured second place in the women’s division of the tournament, behind Dotty Fothergill. She later accepted her trophy from Tournament Committee Chairman Carl Hindel. Beyond her remarkable performance on American lanes, Suda played a pivotal role in Japan’s bowling scene. She co-founded the Japan Ladies Bowling Club alongside fellow bowling icon Ritsuko Nakayama, contributing to the growth and recognition of the sport within Japan.
