A STRIKE FOR FRIENDSHIP
Date: July 25-28, 1963
Cloverleaf Lanes in Miami, Florida, hosted the first annual International Bowling Tournament of the Americas. The United States was represented by champs of the ABC and WIBC. Bowlers traveled to South Florida from Canada, Peru, Honduras, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Colombia and Panama. Additionally, Cuban bowlers living in Miami made up a Free Cuba delegation. Some of the participating nations had few (if any) bowling alleys, so participants from those countries were especially admired for their perseverance and dedication. Head organizer Lee Evans called the tournament “A Strike for Friendship.”
