LEADING THE WAY
Date: 1960
Marion Ladewig (center) was among a group of influential women bowlers in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Pauline Bickel (left), known as one of the greatest bowlers out of Omaha, Nebraska, once set a record with a 197-pin average over 20 games in the 1959 Ogden Classic. Georgia Veatch (right) played a leading role in the Chicago circuit and served on the board of directors of the Women’s International Bowling Congress for more than 25 years. The three were photographed as Ladewig held the Chicago “700” Club trophy after she won the first PWBA National Championship. Bickel finished the tournament in second place.
